About the Event

We are excited to have our first in-person Historical Society presentation in almost 2 years!

Join us for a conversation with local author, Sharon Robart-Johnson, about the research she did that provided information about slavery in Yarmouth County and how her findings led her to write her latest novel, Jude and Diana.

While many recognize that slavery was widely practiced in what is now the United States of America, it is not often associated with life in Nova Scotia.

Sharon’s research sheds light on part of our history that has not been widely shared or understood.

Proof of vaccination required. Advanced registration is highly recommended. You may register through this event page or by calling 902-742-5539. Space is limited.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, owned by the Yarmouth County Historical Society stands on Mi’kma’ki (Mi’kmaq Territory) and supports culture, education, and arts on this land. We strive for meaningful partnerships with all the peoples of this province as we continue to live and work here. Through the Peace and Friendship Treaties, which the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725-1726, there was no surrender of lands nor resources. Agreements within these Treaties outline a path for the ongoing relationship between Nations in mutual respect.
