About the Event

Friday, December 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Yarmouth Historical Society Program - Our program for December 2nd will be in-person at the Yarmouth County Museum (22 Collins Street) and will help get everyone into the Christmas spirit. Part 1 will be Remembering 19th Century Christmas Traditions Across Canada as presented by four ladies in period costume. Linda Coakley, Anne Sweeney, Shari Surette and Janice Comeau will share what they have discovered about some Victorian Christmas celebrations as reported in various newspapers from different parts of the country. We then will jump forward to Yarmouth 100 years ago for a slide show about what was happening in our town in December of 1922 as reported in our own newspapers. Santa Clause has been in touch and he has indicated that he will do a stop over to greet the good members of the Historical Society at the close of the program.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, owned by the Yarmouth County Historical Society stands on Mi’kma’ki (Mi’kmaq Territory) and supports culture, education, and arts on this land. We strive for meaningful partnerships with all the peoples of this province as we continue to live and work here. Through the Peace and Friendship Treaties, which the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725-1726, there was no surrender of lands nor resources. Agreements within these Treaties outline a path for the ongoing relationship between Nations in mutual respect.
