Boston Marine Hall archival package

The Boston Marine Hall, completed in 1887, was home to many performances of both local and visiting artists. Probably one of the Hall’s most notable performers, even though he wasn’t nearly as well-known at the time, was the World famous magician Harry Houdini. In a bid to promote his appearances at the Hall, Houdini went down to the local hardware store and performed one of his first escape acts, getting his hands freed from a pair of handcuffs. The Hall helped provide a space for the many talent of Yarmouth and gave residents a chance to hear and see what the rest of the World had to offer.
